Should you choose a used camper instead of a new one? You can definitely save some bucks with a used RV. But naturally, there are trade-offs.
We have lots of experience in the world of campers here at Camp Rite RV. We’ve had the honor of sending many families off into the sunset in a new or pre-owned camper, so we’ve learned what kind of people will do best with a new RV, and what kind will be happy with a used rig.
Read our perspective below, and come and see our inventory at our showroom in Loganville, where we also serve folks from Atlanta and all over Georgia.
Price-Sensitive Buyers
Buyers who prioritize an economical price are often good candidates for a used camper. When you buy a used RV, you’re prioritizing money over convenience, based on the notion that a used machine will probably need service or repairs sooner than a new one.
Like any vehicle, campers experience depreciation as soon as they leave the lot. Some used models will be in virtually like-new condition, but if you really want to play it safe, you should choose a new RV.
RVing Newbies
Buying a used motorhome is less of a commitment than buying a new one, so it’s a good strategy if you’re new to the RV and camping lifestyle. Maybe you’ll realize that RVing isn’t how you want to spend your time. No problem, you can sell it without a loss. Also, folks new to RVing may not know exactly what they want. Starting off with a used model is a good way to understand what features matter to you.
Short-Term Ownership
A used RV holds its value better because the depreciation loss hit the first owner, not you.
Short-Haul Campers
If you just go out for a couple of nights, you might be happy with simpler features. Things like microwaves and TVs might be unnecessary luxuries for you.
Infrequent Campers
If you know you won’t take your RV out on the road frequently, consider a used model. You won’t need to put much into maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
Now that you’ve got a better idea of whether you’re looking for a new or a pre-owned camper, come check out our selection at Camp Rite RV in Loganville, Georgia!
